Backstory[edit]

The 25th Ward: The Silver Case[edit]

Chiruko first appears in #04 digital man, as part of the HC Unit's investigation into Kosuke Kurumizawa. She leads Yoshimitsu Koshimizu to the Rental Warehouse where Kurumizawa conducted his observations. Koshimizu questions how she was able to know where to go, which she says was thanks to her ESP. She tells him she'll read his fortune at Starbucks, and he promises to take her there after the investigation. The two enter a storage unit, which Chiruko says blocks off the outside waves during Kurumizawa's daily meditation. She tries using ESP to locate Kurumizawa, but isn't able to explain what she sees, and tells Koshimizu that the contents of a tape will make things clear. She points out Kurumizawa's dead body, which she claims is a tape containing the information they need.

Back at Precinct 24, Chiruko and Koshimizu review footage of Kurumizawa, who had taken on a polygonal form. Chiruko insists that the image was not artificial, and that it was really Kurumizawa. She says that Kurumizawa's consciousness exists independently in a parallel world, which allows him to synthesize a "cut-out" of himself wherever he wants. Chiruko starts saying "Doink!" at the end of her sentences, which she says is due to her not having Starbucks. Koshimizu suggests that they take a break. Chiruko begins talking about how there is an upcoming war between the visible and invisible world, and that the HC Unit will fight an invisible opponent. She says that Kurumizawa is just a harbinger of the coming events, and then suddenly senses that Sumio Kodai has come into alignment with Kurumizawa. She says that now there's no going back.

black out[edit]

Chiruko is mentioned in one of #07 black out's endings, No.36 "Speak with Aoyama and Akama", where Uehara and Akama travel back in time to 1975 to investigate the death of Susie Sumner. A cleaner named Chiruko Takahashi is called in, who has a part-time job as a medium. She scans Susie's head and directs them to the headquarters of a religious cult.

Travis Strikes Again[edit]

Chiruko appears again in the chapter #4: Modern Observation of Travis Strikes Back, when she meets Travis Touchdown to escort him to 0 Ward. She says that Jeane is cute, and is surprised when she talks. She drives them to the Ershiwu Long City, where Dr. Juvenile used to live, and tells them that she was best friends with her. Travis asked what kind of person Juvenile was, but Chiruko says that she's too complicated to explain. She tells Travis that the Death Ball he's looking for was given by Juvenile to her ex-boyfriend when they broke up. She said that they would have to ask all 3000 residents of the city for information on the boyfriend, but decides to just take Travis to him instead. They leave Jeane behind at the city and travel to Juvenile's old home, which is now submerged in water. Travis meets Juvenile's ex-boyfriend, Kurumizawa. After giving the Death Ball to Travis, Kurumizawa disappears. Outside Travis is confronted by Mokutaro Shiroyabu, who believes he is Kamui. Travis knocks him out with a suplex. Chiruko compliments Travis on his move, and he asks her to take care of Shiroyabu while he swims back to America.

Trivia[edit]

  • Chiruko's name may be based on the phrase she says while using ESP, "Chill out!". This is more clearly shown in Travis Strikes Again, where her name is written as "Chillko".
  • Chiruko shares similarities with the character Takahashi. Chiruko's last name is shown to be Takahashi exclusively in an ending of #07 black out, possibly indicating that they are related. In Travis Strikes Back, Chiruko is a bike messenger, much like Takahashi was in #02 good looking guy.
