Although not initially directed by [[Goichi Suda]], he was brought into the role following the previous director leaving the project. It was developed and published by [[Human Entertainment]] and is the first game in the ''[[Twilight Syndrome]]'' series, followed by ''[[Twilight Syndrome: Investigation]]''.

==Gameplay==
''Twilight Syndrome'' features adventure gameplay in 3D environments with 2D character graphics viewed from the side. Most chapters in the game have multiple endings (bad, normal, or good) depending on the player's choices; if the player gets a bad ending, they do not unlock the next chapter and must try again. A heart rate monitor showing the player character's heart rate is also a UI and gameplay element.

==Development==
''Twilight Syndrome: Search'' and ''Investigation'' were intended to be released as one game. After a good amount had already been written, the previous director quit the project, and Suda was brought in to finish the game. During development, it was found that what had been written up until then wouldn't fit on one disc, and it would have to be a two-disc game. Rather than simply split the content between discs, though, the team elected to fit what they could on to one disc, which was released as Search.
