Kei Nanami is a character in The Silver Case. She was Kamui's underclassman in art school.
Appearance and Personality[edit]
Kei is a young woman, described as being beautiful. She is seen wearing a red cocktail dress, black stockings, and a black coat. She was also described as "dolled-up" and "flashy-looking".
Not much is known about her personality, but she seems to relate to Tokio Morishima. She was also presumably in love with Kamui Fujiwara.
History[edit]
Kei was one of 1,440 girls chosen to be raised to be an "Ayame copy" as part of the Shelter Kids Policy. After her time in the Shelters, she was sent back out into society.
She was later an underclassman of Kamui Fujiwara when he attended art school. At some point she fell in love with him and gave birth to his child. On the night of April 9th, 1999, she was planning to meet a group of men with her female coworkers. The men worked for an elite company, so she was well-dressed. She was lured away to the Babylon Shopping Center, believing she was to meet Kamui, but in reality she was being targeted by Ayame Shimohara. At Babylon she met Tokio Morishima, and lit his cigarette for him. She told him he may be "just like her". Shortly after, Ayame murdered Kei with a customized harpoon gun, and hollowed out her chest with a sharp blade. Tokio believes he may have witnessed the murder, and remembers hearing her ghost call for help in his head. Ayame then left her body on the glass roof of the mall, framing the murder to make it appear that Kamui had committed it, while she hid him in her studio Gladiolus.
Tetsugoro Kusabi became aware of a possible attack by Kamui at Babylon, and told Akira to go there. Once he arrived, Akira was briefed over radio by Kusabi and Sumio Kodai, who described Kei and told him to secure her. After finding a hysterical Tokio, Akira saw Kei's body on the glass roof of the mall, which then broke through and fell down. After her death, Kei's ghost was repeatedly heard by Tokio during his initial investigation. Ayame planned on killing Kei and Kamui's child, but couldn't bring herself to do it. Her child was later placed in a facility. Kei's ghost appeared again in report*5:HIKARI, when Tokio visited Babylon, and remained as one of the ghosts that continued to appear in his mind. According to an email typed by her lingering consciousness, Kei acted as a "medium" between Kamui and Tokio.
Years later, when Tokio returned to the 24th Ward, he saw the ghosts of Kei, Ayame, and Enzawa in the 3rd floor bathroom at Babylon. Kei's ghost said she had become content with remaining as a part of Tokio, and found it funny that she had changed her mind. This was later seen by him as a flashback when he regained his memories in *05 MISOGI.
